This issue celebrates the success of the next generation. For many years, there's been a frequent debate: does entrepreneurship arise from nature -- having good family genes -- or nurture -- a trait that can be inculcated? This issue takes an agnostic approach, as both answers are acceptable. To that end, this month?s special feature has three scions of prominent families and one self-made high-flier. The larger message is the overarching theme: next generation. Whether born with a silver spoon or no spoon at all, those featured on these pages represent some of the best and brightest for the future of the country.

They will have the opportunity to shape the nation's destiny, taking one of the world's largest economies to the next level of development. Are they up for the challenge? Finding an answer to that question is one of the motivations behind this issue. However crude a metric, early success often provides an indicator of bigger and better things to come in the future. If nothing else, there's much to be gained in examining the interests of this generation, especially in an age when millennials can build major companies with multi-billion valuations early in their lives.

This year is one for anniversaries. The region has looked back at the 20th anniversary of the start of the Asian financial crisis, and the 50th anniversary of the founding of ASEAN, two different but significant milestones in the region's development. This month Forbes will be celebrating an even bigger milestone: its 100th anniversary of its first issue, published on September 15, 1917. To commemorate a century of existence, a Forbes@100 gala party will be held in New York on September 19 followed a special Forbes Global CEO conference in Hong Kong on September 26 and 27.
