Disponsori dan diselenggarakan oleh AMD Magazine, AMD World Championship of Custom Bike Building pertama kali digelar di event Custom Chrome dealer show, Morgan Hill, California tahun 2004. Tahun berikutnya kejuaraan dunia kontes motor custom ini pindah ke Las Vegas untuk meramaikan Big Twin West Dealer Expo (Mandalay Bay Hotel, Casino and Resort). Tahun 2006, event ini pindah lagi mengikuti Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. Tepatnya digelar di Thunder Dome yang berhadapan dengan Full Throttle Saloon di luar kota Sturgis, sebelum tahun 2007 pindah ke pusat kota, tepatnya di Lazelle Street, Sturgis.
