In a world still traumatized by terror, we are called upon to intelligently implement a ?security approach? while respecting people?s human rights. Certainly, democratization in Indonesia is unlikely to come to a halt. But in the process, the government must guarantee that these two principles go hand in hand. Eight people?including four terrorists?died and 24 others were hurt by gunshots, suicide bombs and grenades in the January 14 rampage in downtown Jakarta. Most worrying of all, the attack took place in the heart of the city, not far from the President?s Merdeka Palace. The Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) claimed responsibility for this dastardly act.
