It would be impossible for our country to ride the fourth industrial revolution armed only with slogans. We must adapt our ways of thinking and acting to seize the various opportunities offered by the lightning speed advancements in technology. If not, Indonesia would only lag further behind, to merely suffer their negative impacts or serve as nothing more than the cheerleaders of a new era.

The fourth-wave industrial revolution -- also called Industry 4.0 -- fundamentally transforms the human civilization, with technological advancements allowing automatization in almost all sectors. Sales of goods and services have grown vastly in speed and efficiency. These developments are on par with preceding industrial revolutions: the discovery of steam engine, the use of electricity for mass production, as well as information technology in the automatization of manufacturing. These developments will naturally require the appropriate responses of many groups. So far, the government has only launched a road map, dubbed Making Indonesia 4.0.
