The courage of Rizky Amelia, an officer at the Workers Social Security Agency (BPJS Ketenagakerjaan), to speak out about the rape and sexual harassment she had suffered repeatedly for the past two years needs to be given full support. What the 27-year old professional did was nothing short of arduous, considering the alleged perpetrator was her superior -- a member of BPJS' supervisory board, Syafri Adnan Baharuddin -- and the office where she worked tended to keep its eyes and ears closed.

Amel -- as she is known -- mustered up the courage in line with a new era wherein female victims of sexual assault and abuse are refusing to stay silent. Until recently, under the rationale of fearing for their jobs or losing financial access, victims have opted to stay quiet and passively accept being the victim of sexual harassment. Now, no longer. What Amel experienced in her workplace is not unique. Similar cases happen in many other places. The National Commission on Violence Against Women noted an escalating trend of the number of sexual assaults suffered by women each year.
