2018, July 23 - 29 --- Tempo

The recently revealed bribery scandal at the Riau-1 Steam Power Plan development project showed that corruption is still festering within the state electricity company (PLN). Eni Maulani Saragih, the deputy chair of the House of Representative's (DPR) energy commission, could not have pocketed Rp4.8billion in bribe money from Johanes Budisutrisno Kotjo had the state-owned electric company managed its house well. Johanes is the owner of BlackGold Natural Resources Limited, a partner of PLN?s subsidiaries in the Riau project.

The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) alleged that Johanes Kotjo had promised 2.5 percent in kickbacks from the total value of the 2x300 megawatt project-around Rp12.87 trillion -- in exchange for picking his company. The gratification then would amount to Rp320 billion, meaning that Rp4.8billion received by Eni Saragih is just a paltry sum out of the massive inducements pledged. The lingering question is: who else has also received bribes, and where does it end?
