A total of 65,000 HIV/AIDS patients in Indonesia are threatened with losing their antiretroviral drugs they must routinely consumed. The government has failed in its tender for the procurement of the drugs from two state-owned pharmaceutical companies because the prices are higher than the same medicines from India. Only 8 percent of the patients have secured their therapy with the drugs. The TLE type ARV FDC medication is not available as the limited auction entered by Kimia Farma Trading and Distribution and Indofarma Global Medika last year reached a dead end. As a result, medicine stock in a number of hospitals dwindled, and at some were even unavailable.

The ministry of health had better ensure an adequate supply of the antiretroviral drug after failing to conduct a tender last year. The drug that contains tenofovir, lamivudine, and efavirens (TLE) is a lifeline for HIV Positive people and those living with AIDS. The tender for antiretroviral supplies needs to be expedited this year to save the lives of the population living with the life-endangering virus.
