January 2017 - Forbes Indonesia
One doesn't get many chances to celebrate a centennial, because it happens, well, just once a century. This year, however, Forbes is turning 100 --- the first issue of the magazine has the cover date Sept. 15, 1917, so the countdown began last year, at Forbes Indonesia's Annual Private Dinner, celebrated in Jakarta in September with Steve Forbes. Now, entering the new year, it's clear that 2017 will be a big one for the magazine, and the company.
There's plenty to celebrate this year. Not only is Forbes the oldest business magazine in America (and among the oldest of any U.S. magazine), it is now also the largest business magazine in the world, with 37 local editions in 25 languages and 19 websites distributed in 68 countries. Almost 100 million people each month access Forbes around the world through a website, a print edition or events --- a big chunk of that being digital, as the flagship Forbes.com site and the other Forbes websites now reach well over 50 million unique visitors a month.
The same could be said for Forbes Indonesia. In parallel to the 100th anniversary, Forbes Indonesia is celebrating a total of 10 years of experience in the country, that is seven years for the main magazine, and three for the lifestyle one. Forbes Indonesia also sees itself as a business media. The company delivers content through two brands and 16 magazines a year, as well as events, ranging from a few dozen participants to several hundred. It has a presence on the web and social media. Everything is possible --- as long as it pertains to business or business lifestyle. In some parts of the world, Forbes has branded office buildings and publishes travel and hotel content as well, under Forbes Travel Guides.
This year, Forbes Indonesia has a full agenda. The recognized franchises such as Best of the Best, Inspiring Women and Rising Global Stars will be continued and strengthened. Some new ideas for franchises, such as Next Gen, are being developed. The lifestyle magazine, now firmly established, can have its brand broadened and deepened. The lists continue, especially the signature 50 Richest list, published as always in the last issue of December. All in all, Forbes Indonesia is 10 years young, and there's much to look forward to this year, and for the next nine --- or 99 --- after that.
