2018, April 30 - May 06 --- Tempo

As the incumbent running in the 2019 presidential election, Joko Widodo seems to hold all the cards: power, popularity, the government and a greater opportunity to meet with his electorates. With his increasing electability now hovering above 50 percent -- higher than Prabowo Subianto, the candidate from Gerindra -- he has a good chance of being re-elected for the 2019-2024 period.

Jokowi indeed has come a long way after four years in office. He has completed several infrastructure projects, albeit with some postscripts: of work accidents, mishandled funds and other technical problems. Almost every week, he inaugurates a new project, and each ceremony gives him a chance to garner public sympathy. Proponents and opponents of Jokowi, as shown in several surveys, embrace different religions and beliefs. Some parties are evidently still trying to resort to the same old religion weapon in the coming election rounds in 2019. So, Jokowi has a golden opportunity to fix this situation. He can reach out to all groups and organizations to cool the searing political heat. But, as a presidential candidate, he must refrain from wrongly embracing intolerant hardline groups just to win the game.
